Vannerie de Calenzana - Handcrafted Wicker Basket

From the island's cultural heritage, our online basketry is entirely artisanal, made from plants naturally growing in the maquis; Myrtle, Olive, Reed, Willow. For production reasons, some of the willow comes from French osier culture. The Myrtle: its purplish berries are appreciated for flavoring meat and pâtés but also liqueurs and wines. The leaves are taken in infusions and sauces. The branches used in basketry, when scraped, emit a pleasant smell for several years. The Olive: widespread on the island, this tree provides shoots, also called suckers, which will be used in basketry. Their color gives a bluish-gray hue to the baskets. The Reed: also called Provence reeds, will be split into strips and used in making large pieces.
